High above, the wise one floated. Beside the bird of beauty, she pondered the world and sent down rain from her western throne.

The firelord greeted the sun from the top to the tallest structure with a loud cry. He surveyed his family and saw that they prospered. He looked upon his bright feathers and knew that the strength to protect his flock was upon him.

There was a rotten core to it all, a foul monster with fowl above and foal below. Hated by the others, yet inescapable, it sat between all save for the dragon which it hated most.

The mighty peak looked to the plains and saw a great army. An army that would claim it, and the forest beyond that. But it did not care. It saw the forge above. The forge that would take its metals. But it did not care. The mountain knew that it would never see the dreamer again as he was before, and the mountain shed a single tear.

The son of the king of creatures was rejected, abandoned, falling from his place. Cast down by unthinkable wrath from afar and was hurled to a place lower than the bottom. He now lies amongst the dregs.

The tree sits at the bottom of the world: a steadfast corner of reality. Its mighty branches hold aloft the cock and crow.

At the base of society, the warrior waited. Firmly planted, flanked by tree and mountain, the beast of war stood resolute. It did not waver in the face of the terrible creature above it.

No home but the empty road. No shelter but the trees. No light but the eastern sun. No helper but its own wits.

Atop the mountain peak, the forge was set. No tool remained broken, no challenge of craftsmanship unanswered. The sound of ringing, and the belching of flames filled the halls under the dreary sky.

When the swan found her lover to be a star-crossed monster, she returned to her summer home.
