Military Ranks

An #Ehnet (fireteam) is the smallest unit on the army.  It is usually 4 to 8 people.

A #Hafna (crew) is the basic unit of the army.  Most are about 100 people, but can be anywhere from 50 to 200.  Every Hafna will have caster support, but those designated as "Heavy" units will be equipped with an abjuration specialist who solely focuses on shielding the unit from projectiles and enemy magic users.

A #Drang (private) is the lowest rank of the army.  There are not very many of them, as most warriors are promoted to the next rank after a campaign.

A #Thegn (corporal) is the most common ranked soldier in the army.  Thegns have had some kind of combat experience but have not shown themselves to be exceptional warriors yet.

A #Lindsman (sergeant) is a particularly noteworthy or at least experienced warrior.  Lindsmen are the backbone of the army and are important as fighters, trainers, and advisors for officers.

A #Styrman (lieutenant) is the lowest ranked officer.  Styrmen can be promoted from the ranks or join at their rank if they are nobles.  A noble Styrman may go by the shortened "Styr" title.  Veteran Styrmen can command Hafnas.

A #Skeppare (captain) commands a Hafna.  Most officers will never be promoted higher than Skeppare.

An #Oberst (colonel) organizes many Hafna into a large unit.

An #Orlogsjef (major) commands a large block of troops and has several subordinate Obersts.  The Orolgsjefs are often more administrative in their command than other officers.  They will often send a champion in their place.

A #Merkismather (flagbearer) is an honored position and advisor to the Orlogsjef and three accompany each of them or serve as their champion.  One will be from the central government, one from their regional noble house, and another will be appointed by their Oberst.  Merkismathers are often promoted from the ranks of the Styrmen as a reward for service, skill, and bravery.

A #Stallari (general) commands one of the main Banner Armies of Drotingdomr.  Stallari are usually Dukes / Duchesses that serve directly under the royal household.  If they are infirm or do poorly in battle, they can be replaced by a younger member of their dynasty.
